Continue ReadingThe stories, A Good Day on the River and I Apologize to You, Sir, are part of my collection This is not America, (or … is it?), which I wrote as a continuation of my master’s thesis in creative writing at Bath Spa University in the UK.
Originally, I planned to write a collection of stories titled Somewhere (which I still intend to write someday), but my professor, Gerard Woodward - an award-winning British poet and fiction writer- urged me to focus on stories related to the economic and social crisis in Greece. He was interested in reading about how the crisis affected the personal and collective mindset of the Greek people and how they responded to it.
After giving it some thought, I decided to take on the challenge. Little did I know that completing the collection, especially this one, would require a great deal of hard work and dedication. It took me seven years to write twenty-two stories, sixteen of which are included in the collection.
Although it was one of the most challenging tasks I’ve ever undertaken, I’m grateful I did it, and I owe a debt of gratitude to my professor and to my partner Sophia Verginis, who translated and edited the stories into the Greek language, and to all the people who helped me with my difficult task. The experience of researching and writing the stories was an unforgettable rollercoaster ride, which I want to believe turned me into a better person.
I’m proud to say that A Good Day on the River won second place out of forty-one submissions in a competition organized at Bath Spa University by the prestigious American literary agency Janklow & Nesbit.
The rest of the stories are stories I wrote over the years, and I hope that one day they will find their way into a collection.
I would be grateful if you could take the time to read my work and provide honest feedback.
Come along for the ride and explore the world of This is not America (or … is it?).
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
